Just one Dem primary on tap for City Council on Tuesday but it’s a goodie: endorsed candidates, City Councilwoman Samia Suliman and District Leader Kevin Monks challenged by Councilwoman Maria Pereira and Keyla Medina.
Two years ago Pereira lost the walk-in vote but her absentee ballot harvesting put her over the top. She’s among a handful of city pols charged with alleged election fraud from the 2023 cycle.
Suliman and Medina are both residents of vote-rich Success Village in the JFK precinct. Hooker is the other precinct.
Absentee ballots may once again decide this on Tuesday.
But, what’s a Bridgeport election without that?
Examples of campaign pieces.
Why aren’t the candidates questioning legal authorities who have been reviewing the financial issues previous to Bridgeport and Stratford municipal support, and Court appointment of Barry Knottt to sort things out, secure heat and hot water, and to allow $6-9 Million dollars of money that “disappeared” to parts unknown? Seems that the missing funds, City taxpayers support, and likely illegal behavior with no legal challenge or impending resolution offer curious and tantalizing questions for City Council candidates.
Another story-line, as yet incomplete, is the support for the Charter Commission report by Candidate Suliman on Tuesday Council vote and on Friday at a Special Meeting at 5:00 PM by Zoom that cut the Charter revised document in two parts, both parts benefiting the City long-term (in my opinion as a member of the Commission), and a part that was politically resisted by a handful of CC members at the last minute.
City Council person Periera has not been in favor of any Charter change, though she, at least has provided critical contributions to the Charter Commission with testimony and in writing.
Whatever the outcome of the Primary vote, more than two of the candidates may offer themselves with another label. Read the fine print or better yet ask answers about stance on the Charter changes. See who is seeking longer term improvements for their constituents. Time will tell.
John; you hit the bull’s eye with the timeliness (CC elections) of pursuing answers on the abuse and neglect issue (of Success Village homeowners) re the theft of million$ and total neglect of the condo infrastructure. Answers regarding culpability are long overdue…
Great point you bring up John, the forensic audit was completed in July..imo,it’s pretty clear past leadership had a lot to do with the missing money. Some “ highlights”from the audit….
Unaccounted Funds:
The audit identified a total of $9 million in withdrawals from the co-op’s bank accounts that could not be verified for business purposes.
Misuse of Funds:
Auditors found that many of the withdrawals likely reflect expenditures for personal benefit.
Withdrawn Funds Location:
The audit noted that most of the withdrawals occurred at a Key Bank branch in Fairfield, which was not associated with Success Village.
Lack of Records:
Auditors found no records for many of these withdrawals.
You got to love how Maria was attached to Fox news . Considering Maria draped a Israeli flag over herself in protest to a resolution regarding shit that going on in the Middle East, not a far fetch. 🙂
A point to be made, it was her last running mate that put up that resolution. So it is fair to say like all Maria’s running mate/support how long is this marriage going to last? How genuine is the ticket? If she puts it off, considering that flyer. 🤣
#7 million dollar refund from the BBOE to the city # BBOE over funded. #BBOE audit is not “disingenuous”
