‘Not Safe For Students Or Staff’ – School Chief Seeks Closure Of Six Schools

From Richard Chumney, CT Post:

Superintendent Carmela Levy-David is recommending the school board permanently shutter six schools due to what she described as unsafe building conditions and years of poor academic performance.

In a press conference Wednesday, Levy-David said she is proposing to close the buildings and reduce district staff over the course of three years, but pledged to not lay off any employees before the end of the next academic year.

The six schools she is recommending be closed — Bridgeport Learning Center, Bryant School, Edison School, Hall School, Paul Laurence Dunbar School and Wilbur Cross School — serve around 1,400 students between pre-kindergarten and the eighth grade.

“There is an immediate and desperate need to close several schools … that are a hindrance to student learning and are, in many cases, not safe for students or staff,” Levy-David said in a prepared statement. “It is irresponsible to continue to operate schools that are low-performing, that are inefficient and a misuse of taxpayers’ resources.”

  1. She held this school closing until after the February 27th election, Joe Ganim rolled the dice on our kids and staff , he knew before the Election that the six buildings where not safe and he let our kids and staff to remain in those six unsafe building, while he ran for reelection. Nice Guy!

    1. Blaming Joe Ganim? City Council members like Jorge P.T. Cruz has never voted against any mayoral proposed budgets.

How about the years your girlfriend Pereira waisted on the BOE. When are Gomes’ BOE member friends going to propose a solution or something resembling a flucking plan, other than using parents to fight against a solution to a problem for which they have no proposed solution, other than throwing more money into it?

The Citycouncil wanted Bridgeport to be a refuge city? Suffer a good part of the consequences.

  2. Perhaps, thsi makes financial and educational sense. I like the concept of schools dedicated to students with learning disabilities and special needs. Though politics and the “Teacher Union” perhaps will see it differently. It’s always been more about them than the students and their education. Though they sell it, 20,000 shades of ballots, Gen Now style.

Being Forrest Gump-ish.'”Lile was the dumbest mother-f#@ka that ever lived.” #that’s tricky ESL OIB 😂
