Ganim Increases Lead, According To Unofficial Returns

Unofficial results posted on the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s website shows that Mayor Joe Ganim has increased his lead over primary opponent John Gomes to 549 votes.

Not included in the initial overnight results was tabulation of hand counts, ballots rejected by the optical scan voting machines. Another example of a hand count could be an elector not listed on the voter list at the polling place check in. In that situation a voter fills out a sworn affidavit attesting to a bona fide registration.

In addition, a discrepancy exists in the overnight vote totals of Gomes. Last night the unofficial Gomes count was 3,953. The SOTS number for Gomes reflects 3,749. So that discrepancy is something that could become an issue.
