School board member Dennis Bradley was endorsed Wednesday night for the seat of a retiring Ed Gomes in Connecticut’s 23rd Senate District, but he could face two primary challengers in August. CT Post reporter Brian Lockhart has more.
But potentially standing in the way of Bradley’s state Senate ambitions are two individuals who, ironically, have lived in Bridgeport longer–Bradley moved here 11 years ago–but have to collect signatures to force a summer primary against him.
Activist and former Bridgeport NAACP President Carolyn Vermont and Aaron Turner, who was an aide to retiring 23rd District Senator Ed Gomes, are hardly newbies to town. Vermont has been involved in the city for more than 40 years–“it’s a long time investing in this community,” she said–and Turner, 30, was born and raised here.
Turner and Vermont attended Wednesday’s convention. But when the call for nominations came, only Bradley’s name was submitted and seconded, then approved with a loud voice vote.

We had convicted felon Tony Barr nominate Dennis Bradley. Remember, he was a drug enforcer who spent over 20 years in prison for attempting to kill a police officer with a machine gun.
Then we had convicted felon Ernie Newton, who was convicted of bribery and tax evasion, second the nomination.

There was quite a bit of discussion regarding Bradley at the OIB gathering tonight. A Republican actually asserted Dennis Bradley must be working for the FBI because he couldn’t possibly be that stupid in sending that text message which was clearly a bribe.
I asked if he was being serious. He was adamant that he was. He kept saying no one could be that dumb.
Hmmm…
“Bradley in an interview with Hearst Connecticut Media initially said he did not recall sending such texts, and also claimed they were being “taken out of context” to make it appear he was doing something wrong.”
“Bradley referenced the controversy during his speech Wednesday as “tabloid journalism” and pledged, “We’re not going to politic where we go at each other’s throats and say nasty things about each other.” Now who does that sound like saying things like “tabloid journalism” and fake news. You are known by the company you keep.
This incident with Dennis Bradley shows that he lacks the moral conscience to be the Senate candidate from Bridgeport. Those texts speak for themselves and is not tabloid journalism or fake news, merely news. Bridgeport you deserve better than another compromised and flawed candidate who puts his own self interest ahead of what’s right, what’s moral and what’s just.
Wait a minute, there must be mistake here, is this the same Tony Barr who nominate Dennis Bradley who is running for Ed Gomes State Senate seat?

Barr, 51, served 20 years in prison for being an enforcer for a local drug gang and firing a machine gun at an undercover cop. He was charged on Feb. 4 with threatening and disorderly conduct after police said he angrily demanded to see the mayor stating, “I want to talk to the (expletive) mayor now … I’m going to shoot the (expletive) mayor, I’m going to blow the mayor’s head off.”
But Barr — who received 24 votes for mayor, according to unofficial, election-night returns — contends that the threatening story was made up by a security guard at the center and by the mayor’s aide, Steve Nelson.
