Around 4 a.m. you might have heard it and felt it, a fierce rat-a-tat-tat that imploded Bridgeport Harbor Station’s retired power plant in the South End, but left standing the three smokestacks including the iconic candy-striped tower that are scheduled for razing in the spring, though many hope it can incorporated into the mix-use development.
The state funded $22.5 million to implode and clean up the site, led by Bridgeport Station Development, a New York-based company.
City Councilman Jorge Cruz represents the 131st District where the plant is located. See his footage taken from across the harbor at Steelpointe.
Statement from Governor Ned Lamont:
Today marks a big step in finally ridding Bridgeport of a vacant eyesore that has cut off public access to the waterfront for more than 70 years. Soon, this polluted land will be cleaned up so it can be put back into productive use, unlocking new housing and economic opportunities.

Happy Sunday,
I think we need to define ” unlocking new housing and economic opportunities”. Considering there seems a to be a concertive effort to depress the Port and cut it in half.
Time will tell.
P.S speaking of tearing things down. Columbus, (WEEPA) ancestral/heritage) Day is coming up, please, channel your inner racism, anti-police and anti-America accordingly. There’s a reason you speak a form of WEEPS language. JS

I guess we will see how and who has Port’s back in the “economic opportunities. Peace out Port, people, good luck.

This is a big and beautiful first part to the most exciting development in Bridgeport in my ten years living here, although the Amphitheater next door is a close second. Eagerly anticipating the bigger and more beautiful second part in the spring when the smokestacks come down.
Seems short-sighted perhaps a depression to eagerly anticipate the bigger and more beautiful second part of demolition when the “exciting development” has not even been expressed, outside of “housing and economic opportunities.”
Perhaps the parties/developers should get together and do that 1.6-billion-dollar ecommerce deal of the MLS, housing and conference, development. Shit this plot of land is more enticing that the East Side plot. The candy cane stack can be a “billboard” for the Team/development. JS
Good luck Port, your enemies are within, perhaps, definitely short sided. Wouldn’t you say WEEPA? 🤣
