*** Where is the city getting the money to hire all these ex-employees, politicians, etc.? I thought the object of cutting the budget, say, 10% across the board in most depts. & by all the layoffs, contract give-backs, forced early retirements & firings in general, was to save money & streamline city government. Lately, all you hear about is news about new hires, jobs & depts.! Now there’s talk about giving my old job to a retired fireman/state rep. and other ex-employees coming back? A job I held for only, maybe 120 days & raised $69,000. in delinquent accounts. And I was learning the ropes from a great guy who’d been doing the job by himself for close to 10 yrs. & was not able to “just” concentrate on the delinquent accounts with everything else he has to do by posted schedule. We would send delinquent notices & follow-up (in person) in a week @ their place of business. But it was a mayor’s appointed job, which a new incoming mayor could take away especially if you ran on his opposing candidates ticket for city council! ***

The name for the police department hire is Debbie Sims who worked on the Finch campaign. Why do I think Ralph Ford is on the move again? Could it be that Clemons and Sims are Ford people?

The administration’s hiring machine is getting ready to withdraw money from their slush fund to hire a well known serving politician. You get three guesses and the first two don’t count.
State Rep Don Clemons is being considered for a part-time job with the city. The two spots are working for the Fire Department on the laundry truck or working at Weights and Measures. I guess the hold-up is where do the funds come from to pay for this position. Retired city employees are not allowed to be paid from the city funds while collecting a pension which Clemons is doing.
There is another hire going on in the Police Department but I only have the first name which is Debbie.
One more question was the job of Assistant Chief in the Police Department filled so that a connected lieutenant did not die on the captains list which expired a week after the appointment.
We were told that the city was in financial trouble when this new administration took office yet we keep hiring politically connected people.
Lest I forget Winterbottom who just left Stratford has also been hired by the city to work in Civil Service or what’s left of Civil Service. Wasn’t he fired by Fabrizi?

The executive director of Connecticut Community Boating will call in to “Bridgeport Now” tomorrow to provide other ideas about the Ferry boat location, if the ferry moves away from current location. Tue Dec 22 at 8pm on cablevision ch 88.

As stated before on OIB, until convinced otherwise, we are in favor of the ferry moving from current location to the East End.
