In his latest OIB commentary State Senator Herron Gaston declares Republicans control the White House, House of Representatives, Senate (and Supreme Court). And then they blame the party without power for the government shutdown.
Let’s get something straight: You can’t hold the keys to the entire government and then blame someone else when the car crashes.
Right now, the Republican Party controls the House, the Senate, and the White House — and yet, somehow, they want to point fingers at the Democrats for a government shutdown? Make it make sense. We see through the spin. We are not stupid, and we’re not drinking the Kool-Aid.
This isn’t about political games anymore. Real people are being hurt. Federal workers are missing paychecks. Small businesses that rely on government contracts are left hanging. Families are struggling. While the party in power is bailing out billionaires and big corporations, Main Street is being abandoned.
Let’s call it what it is: a manufactured crisis. One that stems from a cynical strategy to “shrink government down to the size of a bathtub” — or more accurately, to gut the programs and services that millions of Americans rely on. But what they’re creating isn’t a smaller government. It’s a bloodbath. And everyday Americans are bleeding.
This isn’t governance. It’s hostage-taking.
By tying basic functions of government — like funding public services and paying our troops — to ideological wish lists and political stunts, Republicans have strung a noose around the necks of working and middle class families, and might I suggest, from all sides of the political aisles—and driven them to their knees. Nobody is exempt from this nonsensical chaos.
And what kind of leadership is this, where the head of the party — the President — says he “hates” his opponents? That’s not just unbecoming of a leader. That’s dangerous, un-American, and divisive rhetoric. When the Commander-in-Chief says he “hates” fellow Americans simply because they disagree with him, he lowers the tone of our entire national discourse. It’s low class. It’s low vibrational. And it’s beneath the office he holds. Nobody should think it’s okay to hate anyone. We are all human beings. What happened to the old proverb: “ nobody is better than you, but you’re better than nobody.” As I always say- we are nothing more than a microscopic spec of dust on a telescope universe. We all will give account of how we choose to treat each other, especially the poor and the marginalized.
Let me be clear: Whether Republican or Democrat, we are all Americans. We may hold different views, but we are not enemies. Our politics should never lead us to turn on one another. We don’t have to agree on everything — but we do need to agree on the basics: food on the table, roofs over heads, dignity in work, and respect for each other’s humanity.
Other countries are watching. Our children are watching. What example are we setting?
A government shutdown is not just a lapse in policy. It’s a moral failure. It says to the people who rely on this government — veterans, teachers, single mothers, the elderly, the sick — that they are expendable. That their lives are bargaining chips.
We need to be better. We need to demand more from our leaders. And we need to stop letting those in power dodge accountability. We can never forget the phrase “We the People” which is enshrined in our constitution. Hence, without the people, meaning (ALL PEOPLE) there is no government.
This isn’t about party. This isn’t about politics. This is about people. And standing on basic human principles

Just a quick stop OIB/Port, my Rocketship in for repairs. I hit an asteroid. 🙂
To be fair, they only control congress under the rule of Democracy. Since we are a Republic, the law states 60 votes are needed in the Senate. 🤣
But this goes to my point on the words regarding that “big, beautiful bill”
Back in the days when the L click count was somewhat genuine.
To suggest in the words that, Republicans have strung a noose around the necks of working and middle-class families is very racial, emotionally charged words aimed at blacks in this country, and its own flavor kool-aid, at least from my perspective.
At any rate, as to the proverb: “nobody is better than you, but you’re better than nobody.”
Someone needed to inform, KW 🙂

Blame game is what young people engage in. Adults have often learned to look at the facts:
**If one house of the Congress in Washington DC is on semi-permanent recess (or vacation) but Republican members, particularly, are not home holding Q&A with their constituents, why are they receiving compensation?
** When the President proposed the material contained in the blockbuster budget bill, the tax cut provisions for the most wealthy were “EXTENDED” but the healthcare tax credits for citizens in most states using them were not “EXTENDED”. Why not? What was the plan for the millions who face life with healthcare inadequacy? How does Project 2025, denied by Trump as Presidential candidate, deal with the day after healthinsurance becomes history for millions because of its expense?
** We are citizens, all of the folks you will see today, moving about, talking, listening, in action or repose, breathing the same air we ALL do. A few people may be citizens of another country and staying in the US because we failed to maintain fair and just programs to deal with people who wish to become US citizens. But Trump shut down bipartisan agreement on immigration in 2024 and stopped a potential resolution to that issue. President Trump has used ICE, masked men in military gear to infiltrate our cities to discover the folks with irregular citizenship status. Using physical force and weaponry, not the tools of democracy, he creates a new norm, as a King possibly would and could, looking for signs of protest that he will shut down even if there is no violence in the protest.
**No one approves of “waste, fraud, or abuse” when private or public funds are employed. But DOGE used a chainsaw to get results, and yet no accountability specifically for what has occurred. Why not? Where have numbers and full descriptions of what has happened to Departments previous to the “SHUTDOWN” been unavailable?
** If the King is in his counting house, how and where is he becoming richer for his family personal enjoyment as fear, frustration, and increasing discontent bubble up from the public? Does his removal of so many long-term Justice employees including Inspector Generals from many Departments prevent his “executive actions that counter the law of the land and past normal executive behavior” from serious or effective challenge?
Stay tuned for the multiple comments and protest actions from the coming NO KINGS DAY on October 18, 2025. Time will tell.
John, you talk about equality, where is the equality in your statement. “If one house of the Congress in Washington DC is on semi-permanent recess (or vacation) but Republican members, particularly, are not home holding Q&A with their constituents, why are they receiving compensation? Are not the Democrats breathing the same air and enjoying, receiving compensation while on a semi-permanent recess or vacation?
We can debate on the merits of policies between the Ds and Rs regarding taxes, healthcare and immigration, to name a few. But this shutdown seems to revolve around healthcare and other benefits enjoyed by illegal immigration
Since you are an educated man who loves the words. Let me rephrase that comment. The “Trump” shutdown seems to revolve around putting a noose around the necks of working and middle-class non-citizens and folks with irregular citizenship status
It is fair to say there is a failure to maintain fair and just programs to deal with people who wish to become US citizens. But Trump shut down bipartisan agreement on immigration in 2024 and stopped a potential resolution to that issue. President Trump has used ICE, masked men in military gear to infiltrate our cities to discover them
However, that failure to maintain fair and just programs to deal with people who wish to “become US citizens” is a bipartisan thing that goes back to every president and congress since I was born, perhaps you are too. Even Obama, the Deporter in Chief had a perception /policy on the matter.

To my understanding, DOGE chain sawed 206 billion to 7 trillion in spending budget. That is a little more than twice the cost for the Obama presidential library. 🙂
As to Trump being King of America, if that was true, Biden would’ve had become president, regardless of the Kool-Aid or Jan 6. No Trump is no more a King as Biden, Obama, Bush, or Clinton and ect. were.
If he says after his democratic elected term, then we can talk about that being a truth and not racist/racial political identity politics. Time will tell in 3 years.

I read a piece by Al Jazeera about Berlin’s unwavering support for Israel tests Germany’s status as a moral global power among their Europe allies. Let that sink in mind of perception and perspective, vie the words. People.

P.S My noose around the necks of working and middle-class rhetoric was aimed at Sen. Gaston words and political rhetoric.
Perhaps if I wasn’t a victim caught that dragnet of those bus cameras he sponsored, fined $250 unjustly, met with silence and consent I wouldn’t have held his political rhetoric words accountable to my perspective.
And or if Sen. Bradley was so entrance in Port political corrupted system he would have had his voice silenced or at the very least amplified because he would not have beaten him. That’s an objective, perspective truth.
John, surely if Germany can be seen as moral global power in support of the Jews/Isreal American can be seen as a moral global power for its past action enslavement of black Africans for slave labor that it inherent from England in its creation, no?
