‘Psychological Harm’ – Senator Gaston: Restrict Handcuffs On Children Under 14 Years Of Age

State Senator Herron Gaston spoke from experience on Tuesday during a session of the State Senate about the psychological harm to children in handcuffs. Watch his testimony here

The upper chamber voted unanimously to prohibit the use of handcuffs on children under age 14, with some exceptions. The language states:

Beginning at the point of initial contact with a police officer, no preadjudicated child under fourteen years of age may be restrained using handcuffs, except as provided in subsection (a) of this section or when necessary for purposes of public safety or because the child is using or threatening to use physical force on a police officer who is engaging with such child.

Excerpt from Gaston:

This happened to me. I was in the car with my brother we got pulled over for a broken tail light and I was put in handcuffs. I was just a kid, and being treated like a criminal in that moment — without understanding why — left me scared, confused, and ashamed, a trauma that haunted me for years. This legislation is about trying to cure the societal ill of placing handcuffs on young people. Young children are still developing emotionally, cognitively, and socially — and the trauma inflicted when they are placed in handcuffs can have a lifelong impact on their well-being. I know there are children and parents who have felt the weight of this issue for far too long. This isn’t just about Black and Brown kids —although this happens way to often, it’s about treating all children with dignity, recognizing their developmental needs, and committing to a justice system that protects rather than harms. We’re drawing a clear line: unnecessary force against our youngest must end. I’m grateful to Senator Winfield and Representative Roberts for championing this bill and continuing to lead with compassion and courage.

  3. Wait what, while there is an understanding to this, especially when cops are called to school the urban setting, where black and brown children are placed in handcuffs and arrested, when whites or children in affluent schools are not.

    Not sure this is the best way to address this issues, but understandable. Optically, it did not woke, liberal stands more the racism at play regarding handcuffing kids, people. So I will touch on two issues regarding this piece. Racism and Liberal woke ideology indoctrination.

    Racism.

    It’s been said, worth repeating. Racism is the tool in today’s American society, more than mistreatment/abuse of blacks of it’s past history. While inclination shouldn’t be confused with racism, racism is the path of least resistance and is generally male driven by penis size and the inherent gay factory.

    What is racial inclination? It’s like rooting for your favorite team. Example, without any understanding, foresight, connection, if a video came on your social media feed of a black person fighting a Latino/PR, every PR will watch it and want the PR to win, and every black watching it would want the black dude to win. That is inclination.

    Now if one of then, whoever, is seen a being a bully and aggressive toward the other who was just minding his business, and you want the bully and aggressive person to win because of your racial identify with him. That is leaning towards racist/racism side. It is pretty simple, people.

    Where does penis size fall into racism, particularly for blacks, it has to do with the stereotype of black males having lager penises. For the most part, people with smaller penis are inclined to be racist in America, particular of blacks, be it white, black and Latino.

    Yeah black too, tend who are have a small penis are racist towards whites. Though perhaps the use of American history as a means to hate/racist towards whites even though they are far removed for that history, as the whites they are hating on. Small penis, is an innate “”psychological harm” couple with the innate gay factor.

    However, inclination can spillover in racial “resentment” That is more prevalent the actually racist, racism. I thing, it seems. Well that is what I perceive how our Racial identity politics game plays it.

    I mean, Blacks you know Latinos, Spanish speaking Latin Americans, AKA immigrants are moving into your traditionally black neighborhoods and schools and that “resentment” follows in your assessment of it? The same can be said when blacks moved into traditionally white neighborhoods. Ironic in the ways, isn’t. Wanting people to go back here they came form. You don’t have to say it, but I know what you’re thinking.

    Lets move out of race, racism and “resentment” and into gender people. 🙂

    No doubt about that. However, is it fair to part-take in a conversations, have a seat at the table, if you will, if you differ from the Liberal view regarding this issues?

    Do conservative have a voice, a seat at the table?

    Where does that, “Psychological Harm” fall in, like police officers who put handcuffs on kids, with events held by Liberals adults views who hold drag queen story hour in schools and public libraries?

    Do parents (conservative) who believe having adult Drag Queens, males who don traditionally female clothing and make up, read to their young developing emotionally, cognitively, socially children in a public school sitting as a “Psychological Harm” and their parenting view? Or are they just “racist” ?

    Where do we draw the line of being fair and just?

    Where are the lines for someone being able to live out their life in the pursuit of happiness that doesn’t infringe on others’ rights to pursue happiness that is enshrined in the American constitution/dream?

    There are three pondering questions/aspects to this identifying issue

    One, what does it mean to identify of the other distinct human species you are not born of, Be in penis, or vagina ?

    Two, when making the identity change, is it only, extremities, tits, penis, and vagina that make up the district human species, or is inner muscle mass strength present too?

    Three, how do you accommodate one’s lifestyle identity choice to live out their life who identifies with the other human body that they were not born of in their pursuit of happiness that doesn’t infringing on others who identity’s with the body they were born of and rights to pursue their happiness.

    P.S Bridgeport Pride Community, What is the ratio to born males who identify as female to born to female who identify male in your community? I know the male human species are construed cheaper. So I am theorizing that identity gender is more of a male born thing than female born identity representation. # curious.

    Like gay, it is a choice, sure I bet you are saying being gay is not a choice? That is true the orgasm release is not a choice, but, the gay lifestyle is a choice. You can choose the “traditional” gay choice lifestyle and stay in the closet, or choose a gay socially accepted gay lifestyle and come out of the closet (depending on the countries governance/religion acceptance) I am sure the Taliban governance to name one, is not really to allow that closet door to be open.     Which touches on another aspect of gender identity that is directly related to Drag Queen Story Hour, in public Schools. Though it was addressed in Rev. Gaston’s statement.

    That is true, and these events like Drag Queen story hour in public schools or any other child events where their parents don’t directly take them are somewhat disingenuous to their direct parenting and consent/ exposure of males dressing females. JS

Gaston stated that “Young children are still developing emotionally, cognitively, and socially” and self-evident that a child will not question their born gender identity without outside influence until they hit puberty and have an understanding, or should I say exposure to and sexually reflect.     Somewhat- true-est, particularly on racial identity politics that plays out in America’s democracy. It can and does get somewhat murky when trying to court votes on emotional race baiting platform . Considering it’s a mixed bag that can and does spills over outside of the white racial common denominator in that racial political playbook and Blacks and Latinos are vie for the same political elected position. Or when the white rage, particularly with the police, like this bill insinuates and videos surfaces like what happened to Tyre Nichols which should have, perhaps would have been a BLM, Rodney King “event” on steroids if those cops in question were white that televised beating/death of Tyri by the police. But since they, the cops were black and the political wind was a D in the White House democracy/America held a national conversation in the news media. I believe the Port held a “conversation” at City Hall to discuss the matters. I don’t recall a march, no justice no peace for the Port political advocacy groups, outside of the bare minimum expression to not come off as disingenuous.

    That being siad, is Irish pride/parade any different than PR pride/parade, or Blacks Juneteenth pride/parade, or even LGBTQ Pride/parade?

    Not really, jsut a point of in one’s pride to identify, outside of one’s political democratic parties D’s and R’s. I am sure most OIB readers have an identifying party. I am sure there are some coded icons, symbols, images and language identifiers too thrown into the mix of one’s identifiers identity. 🙂

    There’s no doubt interracial couples are more common and expected in American society, but I will have to say the level of sentiment varies, racially, genderly, and generationally in the level of acceptance.

    Generationally, each passing generation will hold their own sentiment. The older they are the less of acceptance.

    Gender plays a role I would say too. It’s more accepted of the mixed couple’s family of the male than the female, particularly between white and black interracial couples. That bar is lowered for PR/latinos in both genders. A white chick bringing home a PR male is more acceptable then a white chick bringing home a black male. As well as a black chick bringing home PR more accessible to a black family over her bringing home a white dude. I would think.

    B, It really should not be an issue until college level.
    C. Reidentify the bathrooms/changing rooms from men’s and women’s to penis and vigia. Make accommodations to unisex bathrooms people know what they are getting into and can shit in peace.
    D, on an adult level. since there is muscle mass and strength associated with the male bodies over the female body. It is unfair for natural born females to compete competitively on a competing level with natural born males who identify otherwise, as a means to promote a chosen lifestyle. Recreationally, pride level, to each their own.
