‘Not Sexy, But Essential’–City-Based Company A Royal Flush Deals Straight Up During Health Emergency

Mauro DaSilva and Tim Butler, owners of Bridgeport-based A Royal Flush.

When you gotta go, you gotta go, right? The name A Royal Flush is certainly fitting. And an essential sanitizing solution for consumers.

Some businesses have retrofitted operations during this health emergency. Bridgeport-based A Royal Flush, a leader in portable restrooms and toilet trailer services, has stepped up its game to meet the demand.

Hospitals, testing centers, construction sites, city parks and emergency services are among the outlets requiring hand sanitizer stands, hand washing stations, portable restrooms, and restroom trailers. For individual convenience during Covid-19 the company has also provided thousands of user-friendly hand sanitizer sprays to regional first responders and government employees.

“We may not be a sexy business, but we are essential,” says co-owner Tim Butler, a lawyer by training, who started the business in the West End 28 years ago with friends and family. “Many people recognize our name, but they do not know that we are proudly a Bridgeport-based company.”

And its gravitational pull when in need.

The leader in portable restrooms and toilet trailer services is seen at the New York City Marathon, NFL games, PGA Tournaments, concerts, weddings, even once for a papal visit.

Calling A Royal Flush Bridgeport’s dirty little secret is certainly an oxymoron given its emphasis on portable restroom sanitation and safety.

“You don’t survive in this business without high standards for service and cleanliness, and we also focus on sustainability and green practices both in the field and in the workplace,” says Butler. “We strive to minimize our footprint and be an industry leader in supporting green initiatives.”

From its infancy, A Royal Flush has grown to a fleet of more than 10,000 portable toilets, 60 restroom trailers and 80 trucks to service Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts in everything from concerts and sporting events to construction sites and municipal projects.

During this health emergency, according to Butler, its services have become multi-dimensional including development of Advanced Cleaning Solution a five-step cleaning process with a quaternary based disinfectant and germicidal cleaner that kills 99.9999% of bacteria and viruses as a service for active use portable toilets and restroom trailers.

“We want to make sure that we are offering our clients an advanced cleaning option to help keep people safe,” says Butler.

A Royal Flush is also supplying hospitals throughout Connecticut sanitary portable toilets, large restroom trailers and hand sanitizing stations, critical services enabling health care workers to provide testing stations and patient care.

The company headquarters is located in Downtown Bridgeport with satellite locations in multiple states to service clients. To help businesses and people affected by the Covid-19 outbreak, A Royal Flush has expanded services in Delaware, Maryland, New Hampshire, Vermont, Virginia and Washington D.C.

“Over the past year we’ve invested heavily in new technology, new truck from the cascadia evolution and computer systems, tracking systems, and completely updated wherever we could to provide a safer environment for our customers and our employees,” says Butler.

“We have a new system that we rolled out that has a barcode in each unit that the driver has to scan every time he cleans it,” adds co-owner and Bridgeport resident Mauro DaSilva. “We have GPS on all our trucks so we can see when they arrive at a construction site and how long they are there. There’s no cutting corners. We make sure our clients are taken care of.”

Technician in full-body protection.

All technicians wear full-body coverage uniforms, gloves, masks and protective eye-wear when administering a disinfectant solution formulated to destroy pathogenic and odor causing bacteria and viruses, originally designed to remove waste and soils in cleaning hospital rooms.

The health emergency is something of a leap of faith for the company to meet the demand. Who knows when and if they will be paid given the economic meltdown.

Quietly, they’ve gone about community commitment without waving pom poms hiring 10 percent of its work force under Connecticut’s Second Chance Program.

Bridgeport residents make up roughly one half of A Royal Flush’s 80 full-time work force occupying sales, customer service, operations, safety, driver, service technician dispatch, mechanic and fleet management jobs.

“We are a family-owned business based in Bridgeport,” says Butler. “Just like family we are all in this together as an essential service during this health crisis.”

    1. Maria tears away layers of the onion to reveal disturbing facts concerning the ampitheater deal and how, once again, the taxpayers get taken to the cleaners.

    2. Ben, seeing that you made this post in order to show us what Maria is doing, perhaps you answer this question, here are two comments from Maria in the Post article by Maria.

“In speaking with the former director of public facilities, he is adamant that not only did he never receive a request to schedule an inspection, which would have easily been facilitated, he was not consulted regarding any aspect of the amphitheater negotiations.”

“The amphitheater is not an “economic development “project. It is nothing more than a taxpayer-funded handout to a developer closely aligned with Mayor Ganim who is also a generous donor to Ganim’s political campaigns.”

Ben, is that John Ricci, the former director of public facilities who was the biggest donor to Maria’s campaign for the City Council who is also a big donor to Joe Ganim’s campaigns for governor and mayor?

      1. (like a robot from an overhead loudspeaker) Blogs are about statements. You’ve overspent your question quota. Only out of the kindness in his heart would Ben answer your question.

          1. Sorry for the late reply. I’ve been on sequester…

I know nothing about John Ricci except what I read in the papers.

  1. Relentless as the rain, Maria Pereira has found another avenue to pursue her pro-Bridgeport agenda. This time she argues a legendary concert promoter received favorable and risk-free terms for the Amphitheater. She even has a call to action-another winner trait.
Her entire thesis is based on Bridgeport’s secondary status to the promoter’s wishes. Her intent is to reverse those conditions and improve the landowner’s stake. If you want a better Bridgeport, she’s on your side.
Here’s the best part: she understands politics and journalism as she successfully navigates the “corridors of power”.

      1. You exposed her source, you blogospheric traitor!
Maria couldn’t do what she’s done without ample political clout coupled with the power of personality.

          1. Maria is trying to extinguish a 2-alarm fire all by herself.
That’s difficult but she’s trying and hasn’t lost yet!

      2. Ron and Don. Please stop. Would you rather she not make public this and OTHER issues from out of the closet? Where are ALL the other CC members telling their constituents what’s going on with their hard earned tax money. Tell us where YOuR friends, the ones you know and like, doing this reporting and STICKING their necks out. Where are they Ron and Don?????
I know your friends are probably not having pizza at Mario’s, or sharing free drinks served by Defilippo similar to the freebies he serves to Mario’s boy Pizarro and others. (Say it ain’t so Lennie, go ahead.)
Face it, Maria’s doing just what we all want someone to do. You just don’t like her and that’s unproductive.
        Cheers.

        1. Rich, you can’t have it both ways, you and Maria want Ganim and Mario out of power but you guys support their friend and Maria’s friend John Ricci who is one their biggest donors.

  2. She’s the second council member, Enida being the first, to say the hell with this deal. Both thinks that the residents shouldn’t pay for this and that it’s doesn’t benefit the city of Bridgeport or its residents. The question now is, “Where will they find nine more members of the CC?” Well nine more that don’t have their heads up the ass of Mayor Ganim, Mario and the DTC!

    0
    1. Don, no way will nine more council members say no because they want their free box seat tickets to those concerts the same they did with Vibe concerts at Seaside Park.

I was all over this long before Maria. Check it out on OIB.
Lennie will attest to this also (even though he doesn’t like me making fun of Howard.)
So you shut down the amphitheater. Then what?
Saffin will sue. And nothing will happen for years. Who wins???
Joe Ganim and Mark A knew this all along. I would venture a guess that they even told Howard it was OK going into this contract.
Maria did not reveal anything that anyone with a head on their shoulders. Maria did not suddenly blow the whistle on this.
But let’s see what she does. Let’s see if she offers a solution that she can get 10 other council members to agree with or is she done and moves on to complain about something else.

      1. Sure everybody’s right, Because nobody wants to be wrong. I must’ve missed the Op ED on the same topic, you know, the one that was written for the PUBLIC prior to the one Maria wrote…..FOR the PUBLIC.
And Bob I don’t know John Ricci I only know what I’ve read so you tell me if he’s a good guy or bad guy. All I know is that there’s a federal investigation going on that started with the department that he headed. There’s more to come on that and I believe that one of those involved may face federal charges.
And Ron show me where I support John Ricci or anyone in the Ganim administration?
My point and my ONLY point regarding Maria or anyone like her is at least they bring it out to for the publics knowledge. No more, no less.
OIB is only read by a few.
        Cheers!!!

        1. Rich, you, Harvey and Paul are Maria cheerleaders and supporters and it was John Ricci who is a friend of Joe Ganim and Mario Testa and Maria who made financial donations to get Maria and Ganim elected and to keep Mario Testa in power. Rich, how about giving Bob Walsh thanks for pointing out what Maria wrote sometime ago and to Lennie for posting it on OIB.

          1. Cheerleader, eh?
If I promise to lend you my pom poms, will you let me take your picture?

          1. You confuse a club with a compliment. This is Bridgeport. When I see blood, I’ll believe you.

            0
  4. The very first thing the council should do is to eliminate the city box. It is now corrupted by $4.5M. If they keep it as is and they vote for this amendment the process is corrupted.
Ernie are you listening to me?
And take it away from the mayor also.
No one gets to enjoy it until the city is made whole on the $4.5. No one.

  5. What a great idea Bob that would remove a little of the incentive to vote for this extra allotment. What it doesn’t stop is the incentive to be a good and loyal member of the DTC which is a powerful allure. But a good idea none the less.

  6. The extra $4.5 million is a done deal,no one on that council other than Maria and maybe 1 or 2 others have the balls to go against what Joe says to do..And I agree what someone else mentioned,Joe knew about all the extra work the stadium needed, but with a wink and a nod,Joe told the developers not to worry about then,he would”see to it” when the time was right…
Here’s the article where the council said they will approve the $.4.5 million..

  7. Harvey, Enida Martinez said she would not support the extra $4.5 million long before I read the CT Post article about Maria. This is what Enida said prior to Maria’s article hit the papers.

    From Enida’s FB page.

About the 4.5 MILLION $ VOTE for the theater,
I will be voting HELL NO!

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

BONDING MONEY OR NOT APPLY THAT $$$ TO SCHOOLS, HOUSING AND PUBLIC SAFETY. HELLO! A THEATER THAT IS NOT GOING TO SURVIVE IN BRIDGEPORT ANYWAY. LOOK AT WHAT WE ARE FACING. ONE FOOT IN THE HOSPITAL OR GRAVE YARD, THEY GIVING AWAY $4.5 MILLION.

  8. Paige Ernie Newton. Paging Ernie Newton.
Waz up Ernie. Get cold feet? Or when you read it further you realized what a great deal this actually is for the city?

    1. No one is more qualified to lift Bridgeport out of its employment problems than Ernie Newton. Here’s why:
1.) Two trips to idea-oriented leadership programs designed to assist city council members nationwide.
2.) His position at Career Resources, the citywide nonprofit dedicated to job seekers.
3.) If you’ve appointed yourself as Moses’ rep , here’s your chance to help all of Bridgeport and earn your self-given designation.

  9. I was just reading where Ganim went to Stamford this weekend to test for Coronavirus. He tried a finger prick test and another test.
I heard he won the little prick test hands down.

  10. So here is an opening to compromise. First give back the free tickets. Period. It will show what the council is all about.
Second, if the amphitheater want $4.5M, match whatever they get in school operating cost, per annum.
Education is supposed to be Maria’s passion is so give the Bport Public Schools $4.5M is operating funds, NO STRINGS ATTACHED. No inkind funds. No city gets to say what the funds are used for.
Don’t care if the mayor has to find it elsewhere in his budget or if he has to raise taxes.
Let’s see if we can play Let’s Make A Deal.
