Mattei And Moore Roundtable On Foreclosures To Be Rescheduled

News advisory from Attorney General candidate Chris Mattei. Update from campaign: “Due to additional interest from impacted families who would like to share their stories, we are postponing (Friday’s) meeting about the WPCA to allow more voices to participate in the conversation. We will have an update shortly on the new date, time, and location.”

Former Chief of the Public Corruption and Financial Fraud Unit of the US Attorney’s office and current candidate for Attorney General Chris Mattei and State Senator Marilyn Moore will host a roundtable with individuals whose homes have been targeted for foreclosure because of the Bridgeport Water Pollution Control Authority’s (WPCA) irresponsible actions on Friday, April 20th in Bridgeport. In recent months, the WPCA has been initiating foreclosure actions for relatively small amounts of outstanding fees, which has resulted in homeowners losing their property and being burdened with costly legal expenses. The roundtable will take place in the home of Paulina Young, whose daughter, Sharon Moore, lost her home due to WPCA practices after facing exorbitant legal fees for a small sewer fine.

  1. This unfair practice has been used for years. The City Council has begun to address it, how did it suddenly become an issue finally addressed by a State Senator? Is she working in concert with the City Council, or has this suddenly become a come to J—- revelation? The poor and vulnerable have been victimized for too long, while a few lawyers padded their wallets. Oh, what a difference an election year makes!!!!!!! If it works for those affected, I guess it’s a good thing.

  2. This will expose another facet of public corruption in Bridgeport. The nanes of the private lawyers that have benefitted from this arrangement with the City Attorney ought to be checked against the lost of donors to Ganim’s campaign. It’s a safe bet many if not all gave tithe to Mighty Joe Ganim.

      1. It’s when a politician waits to see which way the wind is blowing, or a Johnny come lately, someone who counts noses before they Act.
        Like Chris Caruso.

    1. … it was also revealed Tuesday that Epstein does not have a contract with the city because, technically, he earns his fees through the court proceedings, rather than directly from Bridgeport. That troubled Ordinance Committee members like Martinez and Peter Spain, who wanted to know how Epstein can be evaluated and held accountable by the city.

Tuesday’s meeting also escalated an ongoing power struggle between the City Council and Bridgeport’s law department. Some on the legislative body have suggested they hire their own attorney, arguing Anastasi, Liskov and their colleagues in City Hall work for the mayor/executive branch of municipal government.

Anastasi did not help matters Tuesday. After Council President Aidee Nieves initially floated the idea of issuing subpoenas — “I don’t want to take it to that degree, but…” — Anastasi advised the Ordinance Committee that only the full council has that ability.

But Spain and Newton flipped through the municipal charter and found committees have subpoena powers. Anastasi apologized for his error, saying he was consulting the charter himself and Spain and Newton “beat me to it.”

Me thinks Mark Anastasi is full of shit.

      1. It’s more than apparent Mr. Anastasi has been misleading the City Council, for years. His authority on all things city charter is being questionec by the aldermen.

  3. Yea Jim, I’ll be watching this one. So what’s the deal with Chris Mattei, I assume he’s looking for support for his candidacy so now he’s jumped on the bandwagon also. Now I wonder if he’s going through the back door to accomplish that?

    1. Of course Mattei is looking for supporters. Every politician seeking office uses the weathervane strategy. Look around to see which way the mob is headed and then try to run to the front. The ivolvement of Mattei and Moore will draw greater attention to the inequities of the WPCA’s collections process. It should be noted that Jonathan Klein and Carmine Lopez did the heavy lifting. Neither of them is seeking
      public office.

  4. Every quarter I get a bill that says amount due 0.
I am suddenly concerned that I will one day find put that I have not paid my 0.00 balance and I will be foreclosed on.

  5. There is no need for a ’roundtable’. This is nothing more than a partisan campaign appearance for an announced candidate.
The city attorneys office is getting the message more clearly now that the city council have assistance from Judge Lopez and Attorney Klein.

    1. Right on Tom, you said it directly, good for you, I was being roundabout, but those in the know get it. I’ll say it again if the Council addresses an issue long ignored by our State level, local politicians, at least one or more will jump on it and use it as their own initiative. Now a State candidate is in the mix, we know that was not by coincidence or sudden concern for our plight. It’s “looking for support and endorsements,” what a pity the parties involved don’t realize we see right through this. I can’t wait for November, this time I will be involved, at least in my area, and I’m going for what I consider to be the best candidates. I don’t give a hoot what anyone thinks, I’m a private citizen entitled to share my time and effort to elect who I believe is the better or best. Affiliation be damned!!!!

  6. It’s more than a little galling the collection procedures of the WPCA with the connivance of the city attorney’s office have gone unchecked for years. Udos to Maria for doing some necessary research. Now the unfairness of it is there for all to see.
