Holy Foley! CT Post’s Generous Free Ads To Campaign For Governor

CT Post Foley
CT Post provides Foley added value.

If you’re a Tom Foley political operative, you’ve gotta be loving the free house ads the Connecticut Post is lavishing on the Republican candidate for governor’s campaign. Open up a hard copy of the Connecticut Post on any given day, there it is, another “News is breaking @ ctpost.com” house ad featuring a photo of Foley kissing his wife with a caption “Tom Foley wins GOP nomination for governor.”

House ads are common promotional fillers, but they tend not to feature one candidate for public office so repeatedly, especially one receiving $6.5 million in public campaign funds. Could this be a Hearst Connecticut Newspaper in-kind contribution that must be reported on the State Elections Enforcement Commission filing?

Hey, will Dan Malloy’s campaign ask for equal time?

House ads are sometimes split between the editorial department and advertising department which are generally separate entities. And it may be some reporters and editors are wincing at the sight of the newspaper’s exclusive love for Foley. Or maybe not.

  1. I suppose you could view it as equal time for all the publicity Malloy and Wyman receive when they make an appearance.
I understand Malloy is attending the opening of a fire hydrant in Bridgeport tomorrow and the CT Post has reserved a portion of the front page for coverage.

  2. Tom–It is known as the privilege of the incumbent. No different than any other elected official. Although I did hear Blumenthal will be attending the opening of an envelope this week.

The mopes and dopes at the CT Post should try reading their hard copy.
