Ganim, Blumenthal, Bradley Stand Against Potential ICE Raids

From Frank Recchia, News 12:

Residents of Bridgeport and beyond are showing they are strongly against the raids that are happening in New York.

Gov. Ned Lamont, who was in Bridgeport Sunday to march in the Puerto Rican Day Parade, said he stands with the state’s Congressional delegation in opposing the raids.

Earlier, Sen. Richard Blumenthal was joined by Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim and Sen. Dennis Bradley in addressing the situation.

“This state is a sanctuary state, this city is a sanctuary city,” Bradley said.

They said certain venues like churches, hospitals, libraries and schools are strictly off limits for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids.

Ganim said he has directed the police department not to cooperate with ICE.

Bridgeport journalist Lennie Grimaldi worked for President Donald Trump during the 1990s. He says during that time, he gained insight into Trump’s way of thinking.

“Trump’s a person who tries to move people to places they don’t want to go,” Grimaldi said.

  1. Dennis Bradley stated that Bridgeport is a “sanctuary city.” That is false.

The Bridgeport Board of Education voted to make BPS a sanctuary public school system, however the City Council, at Mayor Ganim’s urging, refused to make the City of Bridgeport a “Sanctuary City.” They made it a “Welcoming City” which sounds like a tourist attraction slogan.

  2. Before Don, and Day go all racist Trump 45 lets not forget about the Deporter in Chief. From what I understand these raids are on individuals who went before a immigration judge and was order to be deported or those who didn’t show up to their case hearing. If this country is not going to abide by it court judges, Maria don’t bother to show up to your court case and and seek sanctuary in Thomas Hooker. 🙂 All kidding aside Congress should do it Job and come up with a comprehensive immigration plan. While Congress works on immigration, and the city could find $70,000 to spend on ice cream maybe they can find the funds to remove the scaffolding for City Hall. Its only been up for decades. JS

    1. Frank instead of writing a book on all that you see at 999 Broad Street tell the Fed what you have seen. But make sure you get immunity before you spill the beans. Because you were not witness. The word accomplice is more fitting. Look it up. I’m sure it’s in one of the police books the department gave you. 🙂

    2. Frank you have a back-round in law enforcement. What kind of tactic is it when they tell the people when they’re planing to do a raid? Even though deportation raids have been carried out for like decades because it’s a common task of their Job. It’s like BPD telling the people they are going to pull people over and giving them tickets for speeding. JS

      P.S #accomplice, #Mordecai 🙂

      1. Great video! All I know is The City Council is about to find out what little power they really have!!! Ice raids are WAAAAAY above their pay grade!!!! No matter how upset they are. They are upset about unmarked cars in the port? They been used here for 30 years. Just ask a drug dealer…. He’ll tell you.

  4. Dems, Liberals, stop promoting fear and using immigrant as a means to be loved. #santcuarycity
Because your rhetoric, actions or lack, sometimes don’t support your public media stance. Speaking of sanctuary city San Francisco ban E-cigs, yet gives out free needles, sanctuary place to shoot up, and spends close to 100 million to clean shit on the streets from homeless people,

P.S Maria Denise did say he wants the Port to be an entertainment destination. #welcomingcity. 🙂

  5. Where are the voices and outrage of the Christian Evangelistic Ministries who support President 45?

Leviticus 19:33-34 NIV – “‘When a foreigner resides among” New International Version (NIV)
33 “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. 34 The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

For residents of Bridgeport and anywhere in America, when and a ICE agent comes to your dwelling:

“I do not consent to your entry into this dwelling, I want to remain silent, and I wish to speak to my attorney before speaking with you. If you have a warrant authorizing entry into this dwelling, please slide it under the door for my inspection. Thank you.”

“No permit a su entrada en esta casa. Deseo seguir guar silencio y deseo hablar con mi abogado antes de hablar con usted. Si usted tiene una orden a que le que autorice entrar en esta casa, por favor pasarla por debajo de la Puerta. Gracias.”

    1. Really Ron, What say you about this old testament verse. Samuel 15:3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy[a] all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’” Do you think the Amalekites were immigrants or were “Steve” people the immigrants. JS

      1. Verse 3. – Utterly destroy. Hebrew, “put under the ban.” The word herem, ban, properly signifies a thing set apart, especially one devoted to God; and whatever was so devoted could not be redeemed, but must be slain. When a country was put under the ban, all living things, men and cattle, were to be killed; no spoil might be taken, but it was to be burnt, and things indestructible by fire, as silver and gold, were to be brought into the treasury. Everything, in short, belonging to such a nation was looked upon as accursed (see Numbers 21:2, 3).

        0
        1. So are you saying ICE can “put under the ban” immigrants who are not devoted to God? Or for that matter American citizens who are atheist?

        2. Keeping with Leviticus if you want to use it as your moral standing than you should have not problem with Leviticus, 25:44-46
44 “ ‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites (Steve’s people) ruthlessly.

So slavery in American (white) shouldn’t be an issue with you, and this reparation debate is closed in your eyes, right. .

I only bring this up because of your racist view. No reason to inject God with your racist angle by injecting Trump (white racist) on this country’s immigration policy. Using God for your racist view is wrong, It was wrong then, and it is wrong now. Nothing worse than using God for ones corrupt manner. And I see alot of that on OIB, I’m sure God is not going pleased being used in such a way. If there is a God. JS

The differences between evangelicals and mainline Protestants is to start with evangelicals, because evangelicals have a clearer set of beliefs that distinguish them than mainline Protestants do. … A second belief is that the only way to salvation is through belief in Jesus Christ.

  8. “Ganim, Blumenthal, Bradley Stand Against Potential ICE Raids…” Really, gentlemen? REALLY? It would be a bigger statement if you stood for immigration reform. How about fixing an immigration system that has been FUBAR since before Ellis Island opened in 1892?

I certainly do not agree with the Trump Administration’s policies of rounding up asylum seekers, separating the children from the adults and treating all of them like animals. That’s just Plain Cruel in the Biblical sense, making children live in filth, drinking out of toilets, sleeping on concrete floors… That is going to cost society one way or another. To make it more appalling Trump is using it for political gain, stoking up his supporters on the alt-right, the guys with the hooded white robes wrapped in dry cleaner’s plastic hanging in the back of the closet.

What is in desperate need of reorganization are the nation’s immigration laws and foreign investment. Why are there so many people from Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala walking thousands of miles through Mexico to the U.S. border? What made them want to leave their homelands? It’s about time for the Executive and Legislative branches of the federal government to pull their heads out of each other’s asses and fix the problems NOW. Reform immigration laws including amnesty for people that have been here for a certain number of years; close the loopholes that allowed Melania Trump to get in on an “Einstein” visa. (Life is great when you’re a piece of ass…)
Another point to consider: the majority of illegal immigrants are those that came here on a tourist visa and never went home. Or they were granted temporary asylum and released pending consideration of their applications and never showed up for the immigration court hearings. Failure to appear for a legal hearing is contempt of court. I needn’t remind anyone that contempt of court is a violation of law.

  9. It was forbidden by God to oppress slaves:
“THOU SHALT NOT OPPRESS AN HIRED SERVANT THAT IS POOR AND NEEDY, whether he be OF THY BRETHREN, OR OF THY STRANGERS that are in thy land within thy gates” (Deuteronomy 24:14)
“Thou shalt NEITHER VEX A STRANGER, NOR OPPRESS HIM: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt” (Exodus 22:21)
“26 And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; HE SHALL LET HIM GO FREE for his eye’s sake. 27 And if he smite out his manservant’s tooth, or his maidservant’s tooth; HE SHALL LET HIM GO FREE for his tooth’s sake” (Exodus 21:26-27)

Finally, to further prove that the biblical slavery was contractual and consensual; let me quote what Leviticus 25:47 says,
And if A SOJOURNER OR STRANGER WAX RICH BY THEE, and thy brother (Israelite) that dwelleth by him WAX POOR, and SELL HIMSELF UNTO THE STRANGER OR SOJOURNER BY THEE, OR TO THE STOCK OF THE STRANGER’S FAMILY…

      1. The relentless drumbeat of claims against Trump–combined with the clear moral declarations of the past–have caused millions of Americans to look at their evangelical fellow citizens and ask, simply: Why? Why have you abandoned your previous commitment to political character to embrace Donald Trump?

Part of the explanation is undeniably basic partisanship and ambition. White evangelicals are largely Republican, and they’re generally going to vote for Republicans. And proximity to power has always had its attractions for religious charlatans of all stripes. But I’d suggest the real reason for the breadth and depth of evangelical support is deeper and–perversely–even more destructive to its religious witness.

        That reason is fear.

Talk to engaged evangelicals, and fear is all too often a dominant theme of their political life. The church is under siege from a hostile culture. Religious institutions are under legal attack from progressives. The left wants nuns to facilitate access to abortifacients and contraceptives, it wants Christian adoption agencies to compromise their conscience or close, and it even casts into doubt the tax exemptions of religious education institutions if they adhere to traditional Christian sexual ethics.

          1. I read it, and the judgement was you were “WRONG” 🙂

It’s just not that cut and dry. People like you just go in their respected corners and close on eyes and see what that what to see. Yes immigrants are coming to America in search of a better life for them and their families. like many before them. Congress has the power to make sure immigration is fair, just, and safe. If you believe every immigrant is not a danger to people residing in America you are naive in your judgement, and if people think every immigrant is danger to American and the people who reside in it. They are naive. JS
