Finance Director Feeney Headed Back To Stratford

Word out of City Hall is that Finance Director Mike Feeney, former Stratford town manager, is headed back to Stratford as business manager for the education department at a higher salary than his $120,000 a year position with the city.

No official word yet from the city. Feeney had served as chief administrative officer under Mayor John Fabrizi following his administrative experience in Stratford, and was appointed chief financial officer by Mayor Bill Finch after he named Andrew Nunn CAO. Feeney is not a pol and from what I observed never became comfortable with the roller-coaster political environment in the city. (Bridgeport politics is an acquired taste.) It’s not easy to make decisions when it impacts this politician or that one, or at least listening to the meowing that goes with it. Feeney seemed to be well liked by most of his direct reports and city officials.

Ultimately, it appears Stratford education’s willingness to pay him more than his city salary became a key factor in his departure which is expected to be in November.

As chief financial officer Feeney oversees several departments including revenue-generating operations such as tax collections and tax assessment and prepares monthly financial reports. He does not build the city’s operating budget, that’s the role of Tom Sherwood, chief of the Office of Policy and Management.

  1. Red White and Blew maybe you can leave with him so you can kiss up to him there also. Don’t let the door hit you both in the ass on the way out. Do you have room on the stagecoach, take Nunn, Wood and Feeney with you. The circus is in town just like the elephants you guys are hooked nose to tail (your noses up each other’s arse). Decent, check the definition before you use it to describe someone, it doesn’t fit any of these people …

  2. CT backs Republican Debicella over Himes in today’s paper. Were you surprised? We asked Himes’ office how he differs from Obama since Dems are in trouble. Our main issues are stop the war, lower taxes, and rebuild the Congress Street Bridge.

Anyway, how different is the Obama policy from the Bush foreign policy: This is what the Himes office came back from my inquiry: “One key area is Afghanistan. Jim supports an approach solely focused on eliminating terrorism. He thinks the president’s approach is too broad and looks too much like nation building.”

  3. Feeney is no dumb ass. The only bad decision he made lately was to go to work for Finch. I don’t blame him a bit for quitting.

On another issue. I have just left the York Women’s Correctional Facility in Niantic. They have 28 correction officers on duty on each shift guarding 580 inmates. The Finch administration sees fit to put 21 officers on the street each shift in the state’s largest city. I kid you not.

  4. Do you think Charlie Carroll will get Feeney’s job too? Just like in the show In Living Color, CC must be West Indian. 25 jobs mon, check obits, someone died. I think I’ll apply for his job mon (read this with West Indian accent).

  5. Lennie is taking money from anyone and everyone. I just checked out this Pia website and this guy is scary. I don’t think I would even buy a used washing machine from him let alone vote for him.
Another suburbanite with no cares, no concerns and no commitment for Bridgeport.
If we are going to have to have a state senator who does not live in Bridgeport, give me Musto any day. I’d rather have a Democrat who has shown his commitment to the city than a Republican who seems more interested in running for President of the Chamber of Commerce.
