City GOP Organizing Rally To Protest Finch’s Budget

Republican Town Chair John Slater is urging attendance at a rally on Saturday, 1:30 p.m. in front of City Hall Annex to protest Mayor Bill Finch’s budget proposal that calls for a 2.7 mil increase representing more than $400 to the average city homeowner. The City Council will vote on the mayor’s spending package Monday evening. From Slater:

Due to an overwhelming response to www.stopthetaxincreases.com, the Bridgeport Republican Town Committee would like to invite you to a “Stop the Tax Rally” this Saturday, May 5th 2012 at City Hall Annex at 1:30pm.

The City Council is set to vote for this unaffordable increase on Monday May 7th and we must encourage them to “Vote No.” I ask each of you to continue spreading the word to all family members, friends and neighbors as well as sharing on Facebook and Twitter. Please also continue to contact your City Council representatives by phone and tell them to “Vote No” because the taxpayers cannot afford an increase.

Please join us for this important rally on Saturday and bring your signs. Let your voice be heard and stand with us and refuse to be silenced!

  1. First rule in organizing is if you plan a rally make sure you have people show up.
    10 people is a disaster.
    50 people would be impressive.
100+ people would be a statement.
Mr. Slater and crew need to be working their collective asses off to make that happen.

  2. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. GAUDETT HAS GOT TO GO.

Police said Tuesday they are looking into whether a 20-year-old man who was shot in the hand Monday as he ran in front of the girl was the target.

The aunt of the man said he was walking along Maplewood Avenue to a relative’s house when he heard gunshots. She said her nephew “ran for his life. He ran past that girl and that’s when she was shot.”

Her nephew, whose name is also being withheld, also had been shot on Feb. 25 on Pine Street near Bostwick Avenue along with another man. The nephew was hit in the buttocks and survived. Terik Williams, 23, shot several times, including in the head, died three days later.

  3. IMPORTANT!!! FBI AND JUSTICE DEPT investigating city hall in Hartford, people being called up to Hartford, questions regarding misuse of Federal grants and funds for unintended purposes. This means using money to pay cronies. Top name on list is Tom Sherwood, many questions regarding playing with grants, also Alanna, Nunn and last but not least the Finch. Message to Sherwood, “MOMMA” wants to know if you are dirt. Tom, you know MOMMA. This is all from people who spent time with FBI and JUSTICE DEPT in Hartford very reliable. Again MOMMA.

  4. B&A finished deliberations on $113 Million Capital Budget from Mayor’s Office in early March. Monday night, or Tuesday early morning according to some, they decided we could afford $91,458,404 of projects in the coming year. They came to that understanding by shoving some of $11 Million of various park improvement projects, $5.1 Million of Knowlton Barnum Waterfront, while adding $500,000 of roadway type projects.
Last year the Council adopted $26,555,000 of projects for 2012 and in 2011 $65,219,000.
The 2012 plan includes $400,000 to study East End and East Side Library facilities. If the Library Board has funds to pay for bonding on the construction costs for those needed facilities, what is holding up the studies? It likely is not money in this case.
The 2013 plan allocates money for snowplow/dumptruck and runway crack seal machine for Sikorsky airport, $260,000 of Capital funds to be bonded and paid over many years into the future. The Airport operates at a $300,000 deficit and no Council member asked how the director would bring his budget into balance. If you cannot balance the budget of a general aviation airport, should it be closed or turned over to the State if it is a vital part of their plan? Anybody have a thought on this? What am I missing? Shut it down and save $1.1 Million this year. Or chop everything to get down to $800,000 or whatever revenue level will balance the expenses? Does the Bridgeport taxpayer have a responsibility to subsidize this facility for its customers, the majority of whom are regional rather than Bridgeport residents and taxpayers? Time will tell.

  5. *** Sell it or shut it down, it’s a money pit that’s been going nowhere fast for years! It’s been nothing more than just another place for payback political jobs. Its continued decay with no cooperation in sight between Bpt. and Stratford is yesterday’s old news. *** Airport Tag Sale ***
